I can't believe that people actually think that the newer movies are connected to the original series. This is just like saying that Cruella (2021) is actually a prequel to the original movies. Just because something is set before the events of one movie doesn't mean that makes it not just plain a reboot.

My theory was always Rick is not drunk in a traditional sense, the mega seeds he consumes to make him a super genius the come down is his drunk. He hides it or helps lessen the side effect. It only made Morty genius not mega genius that’s why he had worse side effects. The mega seed only enhances what you have already.
